Meet Raviv Pinhas, Head Music Producer at TabTale. Raviv is the magician behind all the original music in TabTale's apps. Not only does he compose the music, but he also plays and produces each piece. We caught up with Raviv in his recording studio for an inside look at his creative process. Raviv shared what he loves most about working at TabTale and what inspires him to compose the catchy music we all love!
What inspires you while making the music for TabTale's apps?
The art and animation in the apps inspires me. Before composing a piece, I play with the app, talk with the app's game designers and go through all of the app's art. Each app has its own feeling and story. Some of the apps have a cute and light feeling, while others have a cheekier or more wild vibe. It is my challenge to bring the apps to life through original music and sounds. Not only do I write the music, but I work with voice over artists to create narrations and real-life sound effects to give our users the most entertaining and fun experience possible.
What is one of your favorite apps you worked on? What is so special about the music in this app?
I really enjoyed working on Cheating Tom. Cheating Tom is different than most of TabTale's apps, in that it appeals to an older audience. That said, it required composing a slightly more sophisticated and intricate soundtrack. The music in Cheating Tom has a sneaky feel; it is quiet and subtle, yet drives the app. My goal was to make the users feel the fear of cheating on a test or exam through the music’s rhythm and beat.
What kind of music did you listen to as a kid or teenager?
I grew up listening to rock and heavy metal music. I used to listen to Metallica, Rage Against the Machine, Pink Floyd, Dire Straits - the list goes on - for hours and jam along in my room. I'm pretty sure our users have no idea who those bands are! I learned keyboard at the age of 7 and started playing guitar a few years later. Throughout middle school and high school I played in several rock bands and performed at local school and community events. Today I play keyboard, guitar, bass, drums, harmonica, and xylophone - to name a few. At the age of 21 I got involved in music production and have been working as a music producer ever since.
What is your favorite part about working at TabTale?
As cheesy as it sounds, I love that I do what I love. Everyday I come into the office and have the opportunity to make music that reaches millions of kids monthly. It feels great to get feedback that kids love the music or hear from our customer support team that parents want to know where they can download the music from an app. My coworkers at TabTale are also great and make working at TabTale a pleasure. Oh and did I mention I love the food on Thursday afternoons?! Pretty sure I have the best job in the world;)
